Packages from America!

Yesterday when I got back from the doctors, I had a package on my desk. It was from Nana! Yes! Finally some real, American, peanut butter. I opened it at work and it contained two bags of angel food popcorn, three bags of my favorite cookies (oatmeal peanut butter cookies with whole peanuts and raisins), a jar of Skippy peanut butter, a box of tea and a few extra tea bags.  I love my family!

I also had a note in my mailbox that UPS had tried to deliver a package but I was gone, no shit, I do have a job. "Oh well, it says I can pick it up tomorrow", I thought, in Paderborn too.

Today, I left work and went straight to the UPS store and asked for my package. Of course, it wasn't there. The woman told me it will be there at "halb sechs", or 5:30. I went back to the apartment and of course, there was a note that they had been there, too bad I hadn't left work earlier. I was only home for a few minutes before I had to leave, the store was nearly 45 minutes away by bike.
Of course, I got there and the package wasn't there yet. I waited nearly an hour and a half and finally it came in on one of the trucks. I was relieved! Sadly, maybe because they couldn't deliver it and had to drive it around, I had to pay 19.09 euro for the package but once I got it home I knew it was SO worth it. I didn't think it was possible to fit all things American into one 8 pound box, but let me tell you, it is. Jess Banda can do things no one can. I can't even describe the things included so here's a picture of it instead.

Jess studied abroad in Ghana, South Africa and so she knows what it's really like being so far from home without comfort foods. I nearly cried seeing so many things I had been missing without really knowing it. The note she included with a "thinking of you" card was so beautiful that I might just have to have it framed.
